Microsoft lets users ask natural language questions on live Fabric dashboards

A new Copilot feature entered preview in Microsoft Fabric. It allows natural language questions against live data in real-time intelligence dashboards, visuals, or KQL tables. Users can refine visuals, generate insights, save new visuals tied to live sources, and share read-only links. The tool works only on dashboards with a single data source in view mode. Access requires a Fabric-enabled workspace with available capacity. The feature remains in preview with those restrictions in place.
Until now analysts rebuilt visuals by hand every time requirements shifted, especially when starting from inherited Excel exports and undocumented queries. They spent hours guessing at filters and measures just to get numbers that matched the source. This change introduces AI-assisted exploration but only after the data already sits in a clean, single-source live model. Most teams still lack that foundation, so the preview sits out of reach until basic modelling and refresh issues are fixed.
Analysis
Treat this as a future signal rather than a current tool. Spend the next week stripping one inherited report down to its essential tables and documenting every Power Query step so it refreshes cleanly.
