Microsoft lets Copilot users build business apps by conversation

On 10 September 2026, Microsoft introduced natural-language app building in Copilot Cowork and Copilot Studio. The /app skill is available through the Microsoft Frontier programme, while Copilot Studio app building is rolling out in public preview; created apps can connect to business data, write results back and appear in the Microsoft 365 admin centre.
Until now, many non-technical Copilot users could describe a workflow but still needed a separate maker or development route to turn it into an interactive tool. That handoff often broke momentum between a useful idea and something colleagues could actually use. The new experience brings app creation into the same conversation as the work request, but a generated scaffold is not a finished business process. Adoption leads now need a lightweight review path for data access, connector actions, ownership, testing and usage-based Copilot Credits before an app is shared.

Choose one low-risk internal process and try the /app skill in Copilot Cowork or the App preview in Copilot Studio. Test it with sample data, then record the connectors, write actions, owner and credit usage before sharing.
