Microsoft lets Copilot read Dataverse data in public preview

Dataverse integration with Microsoft 365 Copilot moved into public preview this week. Semantic models also reached public preview while Business Skills became generally available. The MCP catalog now lists more than 60 servers. Business data from Dynamics 365 and Power Platform can now appear inside Copilot across the desktop app, Teams, Outlook and Word. Access still requires appropriate licensing. The change extends agentic features by linking structured business records to everyday Copilot prompts.
Until now Copilot could suggest formulas or draft screens, but it had no direct line to the actual records your team keeps in Dataverse or Dynamics. Builders still had to open the app or list themselves to check real numbers. That separation has narrowed. Copilot can now surface live data from those sources, which means a single poorly worded prompt can return answers drawn straight from production records without any visible audit trail.
Analysis
Assume every Copilot answer that touches Dataverse data is unverified until you cross-check it in the actual table or list. Spend the next hour mapping which columns Copilot can reach and which ones it should never touch.
