Microsoft launches pricier E7 plan that bundles Copilot with agent tools

Microsoft made its M365 E7 subscription generally available on 1 May. The plan costs $99 per user per month and combines Copilot with E5 productivity, security and compliance features plus the new Agent 365 service. Agent 365 can also be purchased separately for $15 per user per month. It adds tools for observing, governing and securing AI agents inside the Microsoft ecosystem.
Before this announcement, mid-sized firms that bought Copilot faced fragmented licensing and unclear rules for letting AI touch company data. Most teams therefore kept usage low and continued defaulting to ChatGPT for anything that mattered. The new bundle promises tighter controls and ready-made agents, yet it does nothing to fix the core problem that most users still receive generic or broken results from basic Copilot prompts in Word, Teams and Outlook.
Analysis
Skip the E7 upgrade entirely until your team can show consistent wins with the licences you already own. Spend the next week running the same three meeting-recap and email-thread prompts in Teams and Outlook every day, then measure the actual minutes saved before anyone talks about buying agents.
