Copilot Chat replaces Work/Web toggle with Work IQ

A specialist walkthrough published on 5 June 2026 shows Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat's new interface replacing the old Work and Web toggle with Work IQ. The layout is available through an opt-in toggle in June 2026 and is expected to roll out to all users in July 2026. Work IQ reads the prompt and decides whether to use work data, web content, or both. Users can still turn Work IQ off for a web-only chat or write prompts such as "only use my work data" when they need a narrower source set. Access to emails, files, meetings, and people depends on a paid Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
Before this redesign, admins and trainers could explain Copilot grounding with a simple visual rule: use Work when you want tenant content, use Web when you do not. That mental model is going away. Work IQ may improve ordinary prompts, but it also makes source behaviour less obvious to users. For SharePoint and Teams admins, the governance question is not just whether Copilot has access; it is whether users understand when an answer is grounded in internal files, public web results, or a blend of both.
Analysis
Update your Copilot training and admin guidance before the July rollout. Show users how to check sources, how to request work-only answers in the prompt, and when to turn Work IQ off for web-only research.
