Microsoft folds Viva Connections into SharePoint app inside Teams

Starting in May 2026 the Viva Connections app in Teams will be renamed SharePoint. The change brings the company intranet directly into the SharePoint experience without a separate tile. Rollout runs through June. It forms part of a wider effort to reduce the number of standalone apps users see in Teams. The move affects how home sites and intranet pages appear for mid-sized organisations that rely on Teams as their daily hub.
Until now the intranet sat behind its own app that most knowledge workers never opened, leaving company news and resources scattered across channels and email. This forced repeated context switching that already consumes 25 minutes a day for many users. The rename removes one app but places the same content inside SharePoint, an area these workers already treat as background noise rather than a daily tool. Without deliberate setup the intranet will simply become another buried tab instead of the single source of truth it was meant to be.
Analysis
This rename will quietly increase the chance you miss key internal updates unless you act first. Open Teams today, locate the current Viva tile, and replace it with the SharePoint app while you still remember where everything lives.
