Microsoft ends Visio export to Power Automate flows next month

Microsoft ends Visio export to Power Automate flows next month

Microsoft will remove the export feature that turns BPMN diagrams in Visio desktop into Power Automate cloud flows. The change takes effect July 14 2026 and appears for Current Channel users as early as June 30. The feature only worked in the desktop version of Visio. Older Microsoft 365 builds keep it until they receive updates after the cutoff date. No replacement integration is announced. Users must create flows through the Power Automate designer or other supported methods.

Before this change, a builder could sketch a process in Visio and assume the export would produce usable automation logic. That assumption hid the gap between a diagram and the actual triggers, conditions, and error handling required in a real flow. After July 14 the shortcut disappears. Builders who never learned to construct flows directly now face the same work without the comforting diagram layer, exposing weak spots in approvals and notifications that were never properly tested.

Analysis

Treat the removal as permission to stop pretending diagrams equal working automation. Open Power Automate and build the approval flow from scratch for your current app instead of waiting for a visual export that will no longer exist.
