Microsoft doubles free Dataverse storage on common Power Apps licences

Microsoft has raised the standard Dataverse database capacity that comes with several Power Platform licences, according to updated licensing guidance. Power Apps Premium now includes 20 GB of database storage instead of 10 GB. Power Apps per app plans move from 5 GB to 15 GB. Power Automate Premium and Power Pages entitlements also rose, to 20 GB and 15 GB of database capacity respectively. Dynamics 365 apps saw similar lifts. The change is rolling out gradually, so some tenants already show the higher limits while others still wait. The extra capacity is part of the base entitlement. Teams with moderate Dataverse use may delay buying storage add-ons for longer.
Until now, many citizen builders treated Dataverse as expensive the moment a list grew or a few apps shared tables. SharePoint lists stayed the default because the included Dataverse pool felt small and add-on capacity looked like a surprise bill. That fear shaped a lot of half-finished canvas apps stuck on galleries, filters, and permission quirks that SharePoint never quite solved cleanly. The new defaults shrink that storage panic for mid-size internal apps without changing the real tradeoffs. You still need the right Premium path for production Dataverse in many cases, and you still own formulas, relationships, and environments. What changed is the headroom: moderate structured data is less likely to force an early capacity purchase, so the SharePoint-versus-Dataverse choice can rest more on data shape and reliability than on fear of running out of gigabytes next quarter.
Analysis
Treat this as a capacity check, not a migration order. Open the Power Platform admin centre capacity page, compare your current Dataverse database usage with the new entitlement, and only then decide whether the next internal tracker truly needs Dataverse or can stay on a SharePoint list without buying add-ons.
