Microsoft bundles Copilot into its small-business Microsoft 365 plan
On 28 May 2026 Microsoft announced Microsoft 365 Business with Copilot. The plan folds the AI assistant into existing Business Standard and Premium licences rather than selling it as an add-on. The move is aimed at companies below the enterprise threshold and will be sold through partners. No new admin controls or governance features were detailed in the launch. Pricing and exact availability were not released, but the announcement signals that Copilot will soon appear in more Microsoft 365 Business tenants by default.
Until now Copilot remained an optional extra that most 100-2000 person organisations could delay while they sorted permissions and content ownership. The new bundle removes that choice for many tenants. Once the feature activates, every existing sharing link, guest account, and abandoned Team becomes visible in natural-language search. Admins who have not run oversharing reports or applied lifecycle policies will face the same permission problems at larger scale and with less warning.
Analysis
Assume Copilot will turn on for any Business licence you already own and treat the next 30 days as a hard window to surface and fix the worst external sharing and inactive sites before users start asking why old project files appear in answers.
