Microsoft brings GPT-5.5 Instant model to Copilot Chat and Studio
Microsoft started rolling out OpenAI GPT-5.5 Instant today inside Microsoft 365 Copilot. The model appears first in Copilot Chat for quick responses and in early-release environments of Copilot Studio. It targets better accuracy and shorter answers on work tasks, plus stronger image analysis and STEM performance. The change aims to cut the number of follow-up prompts users need. Access begins with priority for M365 Copilot subscribers and standard access through Copilot Chat. Full availability will follow the initial early-release phase.
Until now, many licence holders treated Copilot as a last resort because responses often stayed generic or required heavy editing, which sent them back to ChatGPT for anything that mattered. GPT-5.5 Instant narrows that quality gap on paper, yet the staggered rollout leaves most teams waiting and does nothing to solve the deeper problem of knowing what to ask or whether company data stays safe.
