Microsoft adds ready-made templates to Copilot agent builder

On 18 May 2026 Microsoft updated Agent Builder inside M365 Copilot with pre-built templates for common business tasks. Users can now start from an existing structure and connect it to Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse and their existing Microsoft 365 data. The change requires an M365 Copilot licence plus access to Power Platform services. Microsoft says the templates cut initial setup time for people who are not developers. No public data yet shows how many users or companies have tried the new templates.
Before this update most people who opened Agent Builder saw a blank screen and gave up. The few who succeeded usually had developer help or weeks of trial and error. Now the starting point is a working skeleton rather than nothing. This does not remove the need for proper data permissions or a working licence, so teams that already struggle with basic Copilot prompts will still hit the same governance and cost walls.
Analysis
Ignore the marketing claim that anyone can now build agents. Pick one narrow process your team repeats every week, load the closest template, and time how long it takes to make it useful versus doing the task manually in Outlook and Teams. If it does not beat your current method inside one hour, drop it and focus on sharpening the prompts you already have.
