Microsoft adds modern icon control to canvas apps
The new Icon modern control lets makers pick from roughly 180 Fluent icons. It supports both static display and interactive use through the OnSelect property. Users insert it from the Modern controls section in the toolbar. They set the Icon property to a name such as Add, Delete, or Edit, and can wire OnSelect for clicks or keyboard navigation. The control is positioned as a direct replacement for the older icon set, with accessibility features included by default.
Before this release, makers who wanted current Fluent styling had to hunt through classic icons or copy images, which left many internal apps looking inconsistent once they mixed control generations. The change removes one small source of visual friction, but it also highlights the larger pattern: each new modern control makes the gap between a quick prototype and a maintainable app more obvious to the person who has to keep the screens consistent.
Analysis
Stop treating modern controls as optional extras. Open your largest current app, swap every classic icon for the new modern version on one screen, and note exactly where spacing or colour now clashes so the inconsistency does not spread to the next build.
