Copilot Notebooks adds mind maps and Excel output
Microsoft’s May 2026 Copilot Notebooks update adds new ways to work with notebook content, including mind maps, Excel spreadsheet output, and infographic-style outputs. Notebooks can also use more reference material, including Teams meetings and web URLs. The update is part of Microsoft 365 Copilot and includes features that are still rolling out or in preview for some customers. The official announcement positions Notebooks as a project workspace that can turn collected references into different working outputs.
For productivity workers, the important shift is not the mind map itself. It is that Copilot Notebooks is becoming another place where project context, meeting material, and files can be gathered before producing a deliverable. That can reduce context switching when a project already has scattered source material. It can also become one more destination to check if teams start using it without a clear rule for which projects belong in a notebook.
Analysis
Choose one recurring document-heavy task, such as a monthly status report or project handover, and test a notebook only for that task. Judge it on whether it reduces re-reading and file hunting, not on whether the mind map looks impressive.
