Microsoft adds Home and Chat to Finance Agent

Microsoft announced new Home and Chat experiences for Finance Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot on 27 May 2026. The Home workspace gives role-aware financial performance views, while Chat lets users ask natural-language questions about finance data and processes. The experiences are in public preview and are designed for organisations that can connect Finance Agent to existing enterprise resource planning data. Microsoft says the agent is built around finance workflows such as reconciliation, variance analysis, and financial data preparation.
Before this update, finance users either worked in specialist finance systems or tried generic Copilot prompts that lacked the right enterprise resource planning context. That made it hard to know whether a draft answer was grounded in the right numbers, controls, and source data. The new Home and Chat layer may make finance work easier to start inside Microsoft 365, but it does not remove the review burden. Teams still need rules for which tasks can use Finance Agent, which outputs need finance-owner review, and which work stays in the ERP or Excel until the process is proven.
Analysis
Build a one-page internal rule that states which finance tasks route to Finance Agent, which stay in Copilot Chat, and which stay manual. Test it on one low-risk reconciliation or variance task before using the agent in month-end close.
