Microsoft adds faster GPT-5.5 Instant model to Copilot

Microsoft rolled out GPT-5.5 Instant in Microsoft 365 Copilot today. The update targets faster response generation in Outlook, Word, Teams, and other apps. Availability requires existing Copilot licensing and tenant-level enablement. The change expands model choices for real-time assistance rather than replacing current options. No other feature updates or pricing changes were announced alongside the rollout.
Before this change, users who tried Copilot once and received vague or generic results had little incentive to try again. Speed alone did not address the core issue of unclear prompts or missing workflow context. Now the faster model lowers the friction for quick experiments but also raises the risk that people will accept shallow answers more readily. The real difference appears only when users already know what output they want and can judge whether the quicker version actually improves their work.
Analysis
Faster output does not fix bad prompts. Run one five-minute test on a task you repeat daily, compare the results to your current method, and either lock the new model into that workflow or drop it before it becomes another unused feature.
