Microsoft adds Copilot chat inside Power Apps canvas apps

Microsoft rolled out a preview feature that places an M365 Copilot chat pane directly inside canvas apps. Users with the required license can type natural-language questions about the data shown on screen. The option is turned on in the Power Platform admin center under Copilot settings. Rollout is gradual and may be limited by region. The feature is explicitly marked preview and not intended for production apps yet.
Until now the builder controlled every screen and every formula the user could reach. Adding live AI chat removes that control and lets users query the underlying SharePoint list or other data source in ways the builder never scripted. The same delegation warnings, list thresholds, and permission gaps that stayed hidden during testing now surface instantly when a user asks an unexpected question. Builders who have not hardened their data model or tested realistic queries will see the app fail in front of the very people it was built to help.
Analysis
Leave the Copilot toggle off until you have written explicit delegation-safe filters and tested every common user question against the live list size. Only then turn it on for a single pilot screen and watch what actually gets asked.
