Microsoft adds Claude model option to Copilot

Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 model is now available inside Microsoft 365 Copilot for users with a Copilot licence. The change gives people an extra model choice alongside the existing options when they run tasks in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams. Access still depends on the same governance controls and data permissions that already apply to Copilot. Microsoft has not published performance benchmarks comparing Claude Fable 5 against the previous models on typical workplace tasks. The rollout started today and requires no extra licence beyond the existing Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.
Before this update, users already faced uncertainty over when Copilot output was reliable enough to use. Adding another model increases the variables without solving the underlying question of task fit. The practical effect is that teams now have one more setting to consider before they have settled on a single, repeatable way to brief, check and reuse Copilot results across their daily work.
Analysis
Ignore the new model toggle until you have one documented workflow that works consistently with the default model in a single app. Test Claude Fable 5 only after that workflow exists, and only on the same task type so you can judge whether the switch improves output quality or simply adds another variable to manage.
