Fabric IQ brings Power BI semantic models into agent context

At Build 2026, Microsoft said Fabric IQ is now generally available and uses Power BI semantic models as structured business context for agents. Microsoft says Fabric IQ is extending into Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences including Cowork and Copilot Chat, so agents can access governed Fabric data starting with Power BI reports and semantic models. GitHub Copilot CLI can also query Power BI reports and semantic models using Fabric IQ context.
For reporting owners, this is not mainly an AI editing feature. It is a trust problem. If the semantic model has weak measures, unclear relationships or disputed KPI definitions, agents will inherit that mess and make it sound more confident. The reporting layer becomes part of the AI layer, so model cleanup is no longer just dashboard hygiene.
Analysis
Pick one high-value semantic model and audit its top ten measures before connecting it to any agent workflow. If a stakeholder cannot explain a measure in plain English, do not let Copilot use it as business context yet.
