Meta plans to stop advertisers blocking where ads appear

Meta is telling advertisers it will remove the Placements control from ad sets, so they can no longer exclude specific surfaces. Jon Loomer also reported that the option to exclude platforms is going, which would let Meta show the same ads across its apps. No public end date was given in that alert. Separately, on 22 September 2026, Bram Van der Hallen saw an Ads Manager note that a Page is no longer limited to 250 live ads. One account spending under $100,000 a month had 286 ads running, and new ads still delivered despite an over-limit warning. Meta has not confirmed a cap change.
Until now, a small paid test could still refuse cheap, messy inventory. You could keep spend on Feed or Stories and block Audience Network or other apps that often look fine in the dashboard and then wreck cost per trial or course sale. That was one of the few remaining levers that did not require a media team. If the exclusion control actually goes, Meta's system chooses the inventory. Spend can leak onto placements you already decided were not worth it, while a looser live-ad cap, if it is real, just makes it easier to spray more variants into the same black box. More ads is not more demand. It is more surface area for waste.
Analysis
Treat this as a change to act on if you already run Meta ads with placement or platform exclusions, not as a reason to launch more tests. Open Ads Manager this week, list every live ad set that blocks Audience Network or other apps, and decide in writing whether that campaign stays live once you cannot keep those blocks.
