Power BI ends legacy Excel imports this month

Power BI stopped refreshing semantic models made through its legacy Excel-import experience on 31 July 2026. Microsoft says those models will stop loading on 31 August, so any remaining reports based on them need a migration path.
A report can look healthy until its old semantic model becomes unavailable. That turns a quiet technical dependency into a reporting continuity problem for people who still open Power BI dashboards built from uploaded Excel workbooks. The replacement is not a cosmetic re-upload. Teams need to identify the affected workbooks, choose whether to publish the Excel data model as a semantic model or use OneDrive/SharePoint import, then test refresh and report links before the cutoff.
Analysis
Inventory reports that rely on locally uploaded Excel workbooks this week. For each one, assign an owner to migrate it and verify a refresh plus the reports that depend on it before 31 August.
