Both sound attractive until I imagine the one invoice, warranty, deadline or awkward message disappearing. I do not want another clever folder that I must remember to check, and I certainly do not want an agent replying or deleting because it misunderstood me.
So I keep more mail visible than I can process. The same low-value senders arrive tomorrow, while the backlog becomes harder to face. I may spend short bursts rearranging labels or rules, but I cannot tell whether the system is helping because I never wrote down what important means or tested whether I can retrieve what moved.
What I want is modest and practical: a short daily view of what needs me, confidence about where everything else went, and as little repeated work as possible. I want an AI to learn my rules from my own mail, show me the first batch before it moves and tell me each morning what it filed, leave anything uncertain for me, and never send or delete on its own. And if my company will not let me connect it, I want the same rules to run in Outlook without it.
