Google pushes Gemini deeper into Android phones and watches

Google released Android 17 and Wear OS 7 on 16 June 2026, starting with Pixel devices. New Gemini features include conversational video editing, text-and-image music generation, and improved speech translation. Most advanced capabilities will arrive later in the year. Wear OS gains Gemini Intelligence widgets that pull from Google apps and chat history. Rollout remains limited to Pixel hardware for now.
Until now, Gemini lived mainly inside browser tabs and standalone apps. Managers could keep sensitive work in controlled environments and treat phone AI as a lightweight side tool. Once the model sits inside the operating system and can reach across messages, photos, and calendar data by default, the boundary between personal device and company context disappears. Teams that have not set explicit rules for what Gemini can see will face new privacy and quality risks without extra effort.
Analysis
Treat device-level Gemini as a read-only research surface, not a workflow engine. Move every repeatable task that touches client or financial data into a custom GPT or Claude Project that keeps context, review steps, and privacy boundaries under your control.
