Fabric Data Factory pipelines can now send Outlook emails on success or failure

Microsoft added an Office 365 Outlook activity to Fabric Data Factory pipelines. The activity supports success and failure branches and can insert pipeline variables such as Pipeline name and RunId into the message body. The feature is still in preview and requires Microsoft account authentication. It works only for the specific email scenarios described in the announcement. No other connectors or external services are needed to trigger these notifications.
Before this change, teams either accepted silent pipeline failures or built separate notification layers using Power Automate, Logic Apps, or custom scripts. Those layers often lived outside the pipeline definition and were rarely documented. Now the notification step sits inside the same pipeline that moves or transforms the data. This makes it easier to create hidden dependencies that only surface when the person who built the email logic leaves or when the authentication token expires.
Analysis
Treat this Outlook activity as a convenience, not a reporting control. Map every pipeline you own, decide which outcomes actually need human attention, and move those notifications to a single audited channel instead of scattering them inside Fabric.
