Fabric Apps bring backend building into report workflows

Microsoft's Fabric June 2026 Feature Summary lists Fabric Apps as a new preview for building and running application backends with the Rayfin SDK. The same June update also includes data-agent improvements, AI-powered real-time dashboard creation, and live refresh becoming generally available for Real-Time Dashboards.
Report builders are being pulled beyond static dashboards into experiences where users ask questions, trigger actions, and expect governed data to power lightweight apps. That can blur the line between a report, a data product, and an internal tool. Fabric Apps is early, but it is a signal that Microsoft wants Fabric to host more of the app layer around analytics. BI teams should watch this carefully because it could change who owns app-like experiences built on semantic models, warehouses, and real-time data.
Analysis
Pick one existing report where users keep asking for a companion tool, form, or guided workflow. Note whether it is still a Power BI report problem or whether it belongs on a Fabric Apps watchlist.
