Fabric apps need less semantic model permission in August

Microsoft says Fabric app consumers will need only Read permission on the underlying semantic model by the end of August. App authors still need Build permission, so the change narrows access for people who only consume a report.
Report builders often grant Build so colleagues can open an app, even when those colleagues only need to read the finished report. That wider permission makes it harder to tell who is a reader and who can work with the model itself. The August change gives teams a cleaner split: readers can use the app with Read, while authors retain Build. That reduces unnecessary access without changing the need to test a live audience before altering permissions.
Analysis
Before the end of August, list your Fabric apps and compare each app audience with the semantic-model permissions behind it. Test one reader account with Read-only access before removing Build from broader groups.
