Exchange admins can now transfer meeting ownership without rebuilding

Office 365 for IT Pros tested Microsoft's new Invoke-ChangeMeetingOrganizer cmdlet on 6 August 2026. Exchange Online admins can move a future meeting or recurring series between user mailboxes in the same tenant; internal calendars update automatically, while external attendees receive new invitations. The source and target mailboxes must still exist, the event must be in the source user's default calendar, and ownership of the associated Teams meeting does not transfer with the Exchange event.
When someone left or changed roles, admins often had to inspect their calendar and recreate important meetings under a new owner. That manual handover could break recurring series, lose history and leave attendees with competing invitations. The cmdlet removes much of that calendar rebuilding, but it does not make an online meeting handover complete. Recordings, transcripts, Teams join details and OneDrive links can still depend on the original organiser, so the transfer needs a content and access check before that account is removed.
Analysis
Pilot one future recurring meeting with the cmdlet's WhatIf option. After the transfer, ask the new organiser to verify the Teams join details, external attendee response and every linked recording or OneDrive file before you offboard the old account.
