Excel paste failures need a build check before reports run

Microsoft has marked the silent Excel paste issue as fixed across Excel 2024, 2021, 2019 and 2016, plus Excel Online in Office Online Server. The fix depends on installing the latest update; the support page lists the required builds for each edition. Until the update is applied, Paste Special remains a workaround if normal paste appears to do nothing.
Before the fixes, a report builder could copy corrections or source data and see no error even though the destination cells had not changed. That is a data-trust risk: a workbook can look refreshed while still carrying yesterday’s values into a report or decision. The useful change is not simply that Microsoft has closed an issue. Each affected Excel edition needs the right build before a team can rely on the repair, and Office Online Server is included too. That makes version checking part of reporting quality control, especially where people paste reconciliations or month-end adjustments.
Analysis
Check the Excel build on machines that prepare or review important reports, and ask users to confirm a test paste before they reuse a previously affected workbook.
