Excel Copilot skills need a preview check before reuse

A new Excel University walkthrough shows how a workbook can carry visible instructions and reusable Copilot skills for repeated reporting work. Microsoft separately documents custom Excel skills as a preview capability that requires version 2608 or later in Beta or Current Channel Preview, and says not to use it in a production Copilot extension.
When a reporting team needs every run to respect the same chart, table, and format standard, another long prompt is a fragile way to carry it. A workbook-level instruction layer can make the desired output and checks travel with the file. A working demo is not yet a production control. Availability depends on the update channel, and implementation details in the practical walkthrough need checking against the tenant and build in use. Start with one low-risk reporting template, then verify the result before others reuse it.
Analysis
Choose one non-production report template, confirm the Excel build and channel, and test a single reusable instruction against three sample data sets. Keep the pattern only if the output stays consistent and a reviewer can explain its limits.
