Excel Copilot runs Python analysis inside existing workbooks

Microsoft’s August 25 Copilot release notes say that Edit with Copilot in Excel can use Python for advanced analysis, simulations, visualisations, and data transformation. The results are written back into the workbook, while existing security and execution controls continue to apply.
Report builders often reach the point where a formula is not the right tool, then leave Excel to script, model, or clean the data elsewhere. That creates handoffs and makes it harder for another reviewer to see how an analysis was produced. This does not turn every spreadsheet into a safe Python project. It does create a faster route from a well-defined analysis question to a visible workbook result, so the quality check shifts to the data, assumptions, and output—not just whether Copilot produced code.
Analysis
Choose one low-risk reporting task that currently leaves Excel for manual analysis. Test it on a copy of the workbook, then compare the result with your existing method before making it part of a recurring report.
