Microsoft retires Entra memberOf dynamic rules in November

Microsoft plans to retire the preview memberOf rule operator in Microsoft Entra ID from 3 November 2026. Organisations using it in dynamic membership groups, dynamic administrative units or entitlement-management auto-assignment policies need to replace those rules before processing stops and membership data becomes stale.
The operator gave administrators a practical way to build a dynamic group from the direct members of other groups, even though Microsoft warned that the preview had processing limits. Those groups may now sit underneath licensing, application access, Teams membership or SharePoint permissions. This is not a cosmetic syntax change. If an affected rule stops processing, access can drift quietly as people join or leave the source groups, so the first job is finding every dependency rather than waiting for a user-facing failure.
