Dataverse semantic model gives Copilot a shared business glossary

Microsoft’s July/August Power Platform update lists the Dataverse semantic model as a preview feature. A fresh hands-on guide shows it using scoped tables, existing metadata, and a shared glossary so Copilot can connect business terms such as internal acronyms or deal stages to the right Dataverse fields.
Teams often teach each new Copilot or agent the same internal vocabulary again and again. A central semantic layer could reduce that repeated setup for supported Dataverse experiences, especially where the schema names do not match how the business describes customers, cases, or measures. This is still preview technology with limits, including its current model and environment-management boundaries. It is a sandbox experiment, not a reason to promise production-grade answers from every agent that can see Dataverse.
Analysis
In a non-production managed Dataverse environment, choose one recurring business term that agents misunderstand. Add a glossary mapping, regenerate the model, and compare the same grounded question before and after.
