Dataverse now accepts plain English instructions to guide AI agents

Microsoft opened public preview for business skills in Dataverse on 5 May. Makers write or upload natural-language descriptions of company processes, policies and domain expertise. AI agents in Copilot Studio, GitHub Copilot and Azure AI Foundry discover these skills automatically through a Dataverse MCP server. The same instructions apply across different agent clients without duplication. Built-in governance controls manage access during the preview period.
Until now, every business rule had to be translated into Power Fx, form logic or separate flows. A change meant updating multiple places and hoping nothing broke on phones or in galleries. The new approach lets the same rule live once as readable text. Agents then follow it wherever they run. This only functions when the underlying data already lives in Dataverse, not in the SharePoint lists most new builders start with.
Analysis
Ignore the preview until your current canvas app actually works on a phone and loads under two seconds. Instead, open a blank document and write the three most important rules your app must enforce using only sentences a colleague could follow without training.
