Copilot Studio workflows can hand judgement to an agent

Copilot Studio workflows can hand judgement to an agent

A practitioner walkthrough published on 6 August 2026 shows the Agent node in Copilot Studio workflows. The node sends a message and earlier dynamic content to a published or inline agent, waits for its response and makes that response available to later workflow steps; Microsoft lists the feature as public preview.

Traditional flows work best when the decision can be written as clear conditions. They become awkward when a step needs to interpret messy text, consult knowledge or choose among several reasonable outcomes. The Agent node creates a cleaner division of labour: the workflow keeps the sequence and handoffs, while the agent handles one bounded judgement step. The catch is reliability—permissions run in the triggering user's context, and a plausible response still needs validation before it updates records or sends messages.

Analysis

Test one low-risk classification step with known examples. Record the input, expected output, permission failures and fallback path before letting the agent trigger any irreversible action.
