Copilot Chat reaches shared Outlook mailboxes

Microsoft Outlook is adding Copilot Chat, summarize, and draft support for shared and delegate mailboxes. The message was published on March 6, 2026, updated on May 1, and lists General Availability rollout from early May to early June 2026 for new Outlook, Outlook on the web, Mac, iOS, and Android; classic Outlook is not included yet.
Shared mailboxes are often where customer questions, finance requests, HR messages, operations updates, and team admin tasks pile up. They are also places where reply ownership can already be unclear. Copilot support could make shared inbox triage and drafting faster, but it also raises a practical review problem. If several people can ask Copilot to summarize or draft from the same mailbox, the team needs an explicit rule for who checks replies and who is accountable for what gets sent.
Analysis
Set a shared-mailbox rule before using Copilot there. Decide what Copilot can summarize or draft, and name the person or role that reviews replies before they go out.
