Copilot Chat now lets users call Office agents directly

Microsoft says users can now @mention the Word, Excel and PowerPoint agents inside a Copilot Chat prompt. The change lets a user start document, spreadsheet or presentation work from the Copilot app without first opening the separate Office application.
Early Copilot adoption often stalls when people cannot tell which surface to use for a task. A direct route from Chat to the Office agents may make the first step simpler, especially for people who already begin their work in Copilot Chat. The feature is useful only when the team has a clear expectation for checking the output in the target document, workbook or deck. Adoption leads should frame it as a faster starting point, not as evidence that the finished file no longer needs the owner’s review.
Analysis
Add one small demonstration to your Copilot champion session: @mention the Excel or Word agent from Chat, then show the group where to inspect and revise the resulting work before sharing it.
