Copilot Business first-year $18 rate ends 31 December

As of September 2026, Microsoft 365 Copilot Business is listed at $21 per user per month on an annual commitment for organisations with up to 300 users. A first-year promotional rate of $18 applies to annual plans bought by 31 December 2026. Month-to-month is listed at $25.20. Enterprise Copilot remains $30 per user per month as an add-on. Bundled yearly prices are listed at $23.50 for Business Standard with Copilot and $32 for Business Premium with Copilot. Copilot Chat is still available without the paid add-on. The $18 rate needs an annual commitment, is not offered on trial subscriptions, and lasts the first year only. Subscriptions auto-renew. A 10-seat annual Copilot Business add-on is $2,160 in year one and $2,520 in year two if list prices hold.
Until now, many mid-size teams treated Copilot as a licence they already had or a trial they could ignore. The paid add-on sat on top of an eligible Microsoft 365 plan, Copilot Chat covered light questions, and July 2026 suite price rises did not hit standalone Copilot SKUs. Cost was easy to postpone because there was no clear deadline. What changed is a hard date, not a new feature. After 31 December 2026 the first-year discount disappears, so year-two spend on the same seats jumps even if usage does not. That turns a quiet add-on into a renewal question: who actually needs Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint Copilot with work files, and who can stay on Copilot Chat.
Analysis
This is a change to act on for budget and seat count, not a reason to buy more licences before you have a review habit. Before 31 December, list who uses the paid add-on on real files versus Copilot Chat only, then keep or drop seats against that list rather than the promo calendar.
