Copilot Analytics adds deeper app-level usage metrics

Microsoft is adding more detailed Microsoft 365 Copilot usage metrics to Copilot Analytics, including activity across the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, Edge, OneNote, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The message was published on March 30, 2026, updated on May 4, and lists rollout from late May to early June 2026.
Before this, many adoption reviews could drift toward soft signals: licence counts, anecdotal wins, training attendance, or broad usage numbers that did not show where Copilot was becoming part of real work. The new metrics should make it easier to see app-level and intent-based patterns, but they do not automatically prove value. Adoption leads still need to connect the dashboard to useful work outcomes, otherwise better reporting just becomes a more polished version of prompt-count theatre.
Analysis
Choose 2-3 Copilot metrics that map to real workflows before the rollout reaches your tenant. For example, review whether Outlook, meeting, or document activity is reducing a specific bottleneck rather than treating all usage as equal.
