Microsoft flags runtime failures for SharePoint-grounded Copilot agents

Microsoft’s current known-issues guidance says a declarative agent can provision successfully yet return a generic failure when it uses SharePoint knowledge. The documented checks are an active Copilot licence, the user’s SharePoint access and user authentication rather than a service principal.
A successful publish or install is easy to mistake for a successful pilot. If the grounding path only fails when a real employee asks a question, the rollout looks unreliable and the team may blame the content rather than the licence, permissions or authentication setup. This matters most when an organisation is moving from a controlled demonstration to broader adoption. A single preflight check that uses a real user and a real SharePoint question gives more useful evidence than a green deployment screen.
Analysis
For each SharePoint-grounded agent in a pilot, test one real retrieval as an intended user and log the licence, site Read permission and authentication method beside the result.
