Classic Outlook update hides Copilot controls for users

Microsoft says it is investigating an issue that can remove or grey out Copilot entry points in classic Outlook for Windows after build 20026.20182 or later. It affects both Copilot Chat Basic and paid Microsoft 365 Copilot accounts. Microsoft lists new Outlook, Outlook on the web, or the standalone Copilot experience as alternatives while the issue is investigated.
For a Copilot adoption lead, a missing button can look like a licence, rollout, or user-training failure. That sends people into the wrong fixes and makes a working capability appear unreliable. The practical change is to separate an Outlook client issue from access and adoption evidence. Teams that depend on Copilot in email need an agreed fallback route so a desktop update does not quietly stop a useful workflow.
Analysis
Ask affected users for their Outlook build number before changing licences or policies. If it is 20026.20182 or later, give them the web or new Outlook fallback and track Microsoft’s known-issue page for the fix.
