ChatGPT Business adds default-off controls for external app access

ChatGPT Business now lets global admins control whether ChatGPT Sites can use members’ connected apps and whether applications can access ChatGPT Ads. Both permissions are off by default during the admin preview and live on the redesigned External access page in the Admin Console. Identity-only sign-in remains separate from permission to use connected data.
Connected apps make an assistant more useful because it can work with business information, but they also create a second decision after sign-in: whether the service may use that data. Previously, a team could treat identity access and data access as one approval when they are not the same control. The default-off preview gives administrators a chance to make that boundary deliberate before more Sites or apps are introduced. It does not remove individual consent or existing workspace and app settings, so a central switch is a guardrail rather than a blanket permission.
Analysis
Before enabling either control, list the connected apps and Sites your workspace actually needs, name an owner for each, and test with a low-risk account before enabling wider access.
