Canvas apps can embed Microsoft 365 Copilot chat for users in preview

Microsoft put Microsoft 365 Copilot chat inside canvas apps into public preview starting 13 April 2026. Makers turn it on in the app settings panel in Power Apps Studio. After publish, users open a chat pane from the app header beside the running app. Admins, makers, or analysts control who gets it, including through the Power Platform admin center. The chat is meant to answer questions, work with app data, and help with common tasks without leaving the app. A similar experience for model-driven apps reached general availability on the same date. Canvas remains preview, with no general availability date listed and the usual preview limits on regions and languages.
Until now, most Copilot help in Power Apps sat with the maker: draft screens, explain formulas, or spin up a starting app. End users still lived inside galleries, forms, and whatever filters you built. If someone needed a plain-language answer about the data, you either built another view or they left the app. That split is changing. A published canvas app can carry a Microsoft 365 Copilot pane so users ask questions in place. For internal trackers on SharePoint or Lists, that can cut “where is my request” noise. It does not fix slow galleries, delegation warnings, or unclear Patch logic. If the data model is thin or permissions are messy, the chat will sound confident and still be wrong.
Analysis
Treat this as a trend to test, not a reason to redesign your app around chat. Confirm with your admin whether Microsoft 365 Copilot and the Power Platform toggle are allowed, enable it on one low-stakes SharePoint-backed canvas app in Studio, publish, and check whether chat answers match what your gallery and LookUp formulas already show before you tell the team it is part of the workflow.
