Bootstrapped founder credits onboarding workflow for higher MRR

In an April 10 Indie Hackers case study, PostNitro founder Muneeb Awan describes replacing a single welcome email with a 30-day onboarding sequence while tackling a stalled SaaS growth model. The sequence moves users from a first useful result in days 1–7, through use-case education in days 8–20, to a conversion push in days 21–30; Awan reports MRR moving from $4,465 to $5,409, while noting that churn remained high.
Before this change, the founder describes a familiar pattern: sign-up, one welcome email, then silence. That leaves a product team with trial and churn numbers but little help getting a new user to a first useful outcome or building a repeat habit. This is a useful practitioner signal, not proof that the sequence alone caused the revenue change: PostNitro also altered its free tier, pricing, product and marketing. Still, the case makes the operational question concrete—can your onboarding guide one relevant job to completion, then help the customer repeat it before you ask them to upgrade?
Analysis
Audit the first 30 days after sign-up. Define one first-value action for week one, add a behaviour-triggered nudge for users who do not complete it, and measure that completion rate alongside trial-to-paid conversion.
