Anthropic gives US teachers free Claude with ready-made lesson skills

Anthropic launched Claude for Teachers on 14 July 2026. Verified K-12 educators in the US get free access to premium Claude features, a library of teaching skills, and a link to evidence-based curricula mapped to academic standards in all 50 states through Learning Commons. The skills focus on work teachers actually do, such as lesson planning from high-quality materials and differentiating instruction. The offer also includes Claude Code and Cowork so educators can analyse class data and schedule repeated tasks like reviewing exit tickets. Connectors cover tools such as ASSISTments, Brisk Teaching and Canva Education. Anthropic says educator data is not used for model training and student information is covered by a K-12 Data Processing Addendum aimed at FERPA. An open-source teaching skills repository and an AI Fluency course for PK-12 teachers were released alongside. Sign-up is open to individual educators through 30 June 2027 for a full year of access. School and district plans come later.
Until now, most workplace AI still meant a blank chat. You restated audience, standards, examples and quality bars every time, then spent the productivity gain checking generic output. Domain expertise lived in your head, not in a system your team could rerun. This launch shows a different product shape: premium model access wrapped in a skill library, standards-grounded context, tool connectors, scheduled follow-through and a clear privacy boundary. The point is not that teachers get a free chatbot. It is that Anthropic is packaging judgment into reusable skills so the user stops playing the slot machine. That pattern is what non-technical leaders need when they try to turn one good AI result into a workflow someone else can trust.
Analysis
Treat this as a blueprint to study, not a consumer app to chase. Open the open-source teaching skills and note how each one defines inputs, curriculum context, the task steps and what good output looks like, then copy that structure into one Claude Project or custom GPT for a recurring team task you still re-brief from scratch every week.
