Who it’s for

IT admins, SharePoint admins, and Microsoft 365 admins on small teams who need plain-language recovery promises for SharePoint, OneDrive, Purview retention, Microsoft 365 Backup, and restore requests.

What you’ll need

You can sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center and open the SharePoint admin center, or can partner with someone who can.
You can view at least one safe SharePoint site recycle bin and, ideally, the SharePoint admin center Deleted sites area.
You can view Microsoft Purview retention policy information, or can work with a Purview or compliance owner.
You can confirm whether Microsoft 365 Backup or a third-party backup tool is enabled, or can mark that route as blocked pending the owner.
You have a real or sample restore request, including original location, approximate deletion date, requester, business impact, and safety rule.
