Microsoft centralizes access controls for workplace AI agents

Microsoft centralizes access controls for workplace AI agents

Microsoft published an Agent settings page for the Microsoft 365 admin center on 5 August, updated 6 August. It centralizes controls for agent types, sharing, management rules, feedback and access; the User access setting can allow all users, no users, or specific users and groups.

Agent access often becomes a muddle when a Teams or Copilot pilot grows beyond the people who first tried it. A central setting gives adoption leads and admins a clear place to align availability with the group that has the right training, workflow and review habits. This is a control for access, not proof that every agent is safe or useful. Teams still need to check an agent’s publisher, data handling, permissions and task fit before they widen access or treat usage as adoption.

Analysis

In the Microsoft 365 admin center, open Agents > Settings > User access and compare the current scope with your pilot group; restrict access to the group that has an agreed task, review rule and owner before extending it.
