Copilot Cowork shows task credit use before limits bite

Copilot Cowork shows task credit use before limits bite

Microsoft documents a /cost command for Copilot Cowork that shows an approximate credit total for the open task, the user’s monthly usage, and remaining credits. Microsoft notes that the figure is an aggregate session estimate rather than an authoritative billing record, and that group limits can still constrain an individual user.

Adoption pilots can mistake a smooth first task for a repeatable workload when they do not see the credits it consumes. The new command makes a practical cost signal visible while a user is still experimenting, instead of only after a monthly limit becomes the surprise. It does not replace billing reporting or a business case. It can, however, help adoption leads compare a few representative tasks, distinguish a lightweight prompt from a long-running workload, and decide which experiments need a managed budget.

Analysis

Ask pilot users to run /cost on three representative Cowork tasks and record the approximate credits, task outcome, and review time. Use that small sample to set the next month’s group limit and pilot scope.
