Forms branching turns mileage claims into a cleaner workflow

Forms branching turns mileage claims into a cleaner workflow

A fresh practitioner walkthrough shows how to collect mileage claims with Microsoft Forms branching while sending submissions into Microsoft Lists. The pattern uses conditional questions for additional trips and a calculated list column for the reimbursement total.

Mileage claims often stay in awkward spreadsheets because the form needs to handle one trip, several trips and supporting receipts without asking everyone the same questions. Branching makes the intake shorter while Lists gives the team one place to review and process submissions. The useful lesson is the sequence: decide the record structure first, create the List, then build the Form around it. That keeps the collection form simple and avoids trying to rebuild approval or reporting logic inside a spreadsheet.

Analysis

Sketch the fields and exceptions in one recurring request process, then prototype it as a Microsoft List with a branched Form. Test one ordinary submission and one exception path with the person who processes the work.
