The problem this project tackles

Does this sound familiar?

You've got the chart on screen. Then someone asks why its total is different from the spreadsheet. You can show them the number, but tracing how it got there takes longer. A report that looks finished still leaves you uneasy when a filter changes or the next refresh is due.

01

The chart works. The number is a question.

A copied formula gets you past the problem, but you don't yet understand why it works. Explaining the result to someone else is harder than creating the visual.

02

Every new report feels like starting again

You find a tutorial for one part, another for the next and a third that assumes knowledge you haven't learned. The gaps show up when you try to join the pieces.

03

The refresh is due before the meeting

A changed source or unexpected total sends you back into manual checks. The report needs your attention at exactly the moment you should be using it to explain what's happening.

What you are working towards

Finish with a result you can use.

You have built the first interactive report and completed the practical setup, data preparation, modelling and DAX exercises. You can explain the sources and calculations used in your examples and name the checks needed before adapting them to a work report.

Why this approach

A report is easier to explain when you understand how its data, model and measures connect. These five courses build that understanding in order, with examples to practise, so you can trace a result rather than rely on a formula you copied.

Your first useful step

Build your first interactive report from the course's sample data, with charts and slicers you can use to explore it. See a working result before moving into the deeper modelling and calculation lessons.

See the results this project works towards
  • A first interactive report built from sample data.
  • Practice connecting and preparing data from more than one source.
  • A clearer understanding of publishing, refresh and access settings.
  • Data models you can explain through their tables and relationships.
  • DAX practice that helps you check how a calculation responds to filters.
  • A foundation for approaching your next report with fewer guesses.

Your learning path · 5 core steps

Build the report. Understand what makes it work.

  1. 1
    Course

Build and publish your first report

A first interactive report built from sample data.

    What this step covers

Starts the path with a hands-on beginner challenge that gets you building a complete interactive Power BI report.

  2. 2
    Course

Set up reports like a professional

Practice connecting and preparing data from more than one source.

    What this step covers

Moves you beyond a single-table report into professional Power BI habits: modelling, publishing, refresh and security basics.

  3. 3
    Course

    Strengthen your data skills

A clearer understanding of publishing, refresh and access settings.

    What this step covers

Gives focused practice with the practical skills reports rely on: multi-source data, SharePoint imports and Power Query transformations.

See the remaining 2 core steps
  1. 4
    Course

Build a model you can trust

Data models you can explain through their tables and relationships.

    What this step covers

Finishes the modelling foundations that make Power BI reports reliable, scalable and trustworthy.

  2. 5
    Course

    Write DAX you can explain

DAX practice that helps you check how a calculation responds to filters.

    What this step covers

Completes the path with the DAX skills that turn Power BI from charting into analysis: filter context, measures, percentages and date intelligence.

At your own pace. 4–6 weeks at your own pace. Allow time for building and practice as well as watching the lessons.

Before you start

Is this the right project for you?

Who it’s for

Excel users, new report builders and people who have inherited reporting work and want to understand Power BI properly. No previous Power BI experience is required; you will need a Windows computer and the course software access.

Level
Beginner to intermediate
Access
90-day Learning Pass

What you’ll need

  • A Windows PC that can run Power BI Desktop, which is free to install.
  • A work, school or developer Microsoft account if you want to publish to the Power BI service. Publishing and sharing depend on your organisation's licensing.
  • No prior Power BI experience. JumpStart starts from installation.

Check the fit:

You build and practise yourself. This is not a done-for-you reporting service or a promise that an existing company report will be fixed by watching the lessons. Publishing and sharing features depend on your Microsoft account and licences.

More about your Space bonus

Your 90-day Learning Pass opens the full Microsoft 365 Report Builders Space, including its wider courses, briefings and resources. Use it when you need help with an inherited report, changing Excel sources or the next calculation. New material added to this Space during your pass is included too.

Full supporting-Space access lasts for your chosen 90-day period. Afterwards, protected steps require continuing Space access. Your Board, progress, private notes and saved work remain afterwards.

Before you decide

Your questions, answered.

What is included, how access works and what to expect from the project.

What happens after the 90-day Learning Pass?

Your progress, private notes and saved work remain on your account. Full access to protected content in Microsoft 365 Report Builders lasts for the period you choose; afterwards, protected steps require an active plan, permanent Space ownership or Team access.

When does the Learning Pass start?

Your 90-day Learning Pass starts when payment is confirmed, not when you first open a lesson or Board item.

What if I already have this Board or its Spaces?

The page checks your account and Team access before checkout. It keeps your existing Board and progress, avoids duplicate charges, and shows the right ongoing option if the one-off offer no longer applies.

Why not just ask AI?

AI can answer individual questions. This Board adds the chosen sequence, named outputs, progress tracking and related Space material for the context and edge cases you would otherwise have to assemble yourself.

How much work should I expect?

4–6 weeks at your own pace. Allow time for building and practice as well as watching the lessons. The complete learning path is visible on this page before you start.

Will Collab365 do the work for me?

No. The Board gives you a practical learning path and supporting material, but you still make the decisions and do the work. It is a product, not a done-for-you consulting service.

Do I need to know Power BI already?

No. Start with the first course and build the example report. Familiarity with spreadsheets is useful, but the route begins with practical Power BI foundations.

How long does the path take?

The five courses contain about five hours and twenty minutes of recorded teaching. Building the examples and practising takes additional time. Working through the path over 4–6 weeks gives you room to try what you learn.

Which computer and software do I need?

You need a Windows computer running Power BI Desktop. Publishing and sharing exercises also need the Microsoft account, permissions and licence described in the courses. Check those requirements before planning to share a work report.

Will this fix a report I've inherited?

It teaches the foundations for understanding reports, models and calculations. You will still need to investigate your own report and data. The included Space also has material on inherited reports and recurring reporting problems.

What does the Space bonus include?

The one-off Learning Pass gives 90 days of full access to the Microsoft 365 Report Builders Space, alongside this learning path. That includes new material added during the pass. Continued access to protected lessons after it ends requires appropriate Space access.

Why use this path instead of separate Power BI tutorials?

Individual tutorials can answer a specific question. This path puts report building, data preparation, modelling and DAX into a learning sequence, so you can understand how the pieces connect. You build the examples and check the results; the wider Space offers further material when your own reports raise new questions.
